Message from the CEO
A year of commitment to blood donation - 2009
South African National Blood Service (SANBS) wishes to thank all blood donors who always sacrifice their time, energies and resources to save the lives of patients in the country. SANBS’s Board of Directors, Exective Management and staff members salute you all for tirelessly giving blood for altruistic reasons.
As we’re quite aware that the world’s developed countries are experiencing recession, South Africa is no exception. We understand that the situation may have negatively affected you in terms of traveling to our blood donor centres to donate blood. We hope, as committed blood donors you will always conquer all obstacles, gather strength to propel you to continue giving blood.
Undoubtedly, as selfless blood donors you will weather the storms and continue to save lives of those in dire need of blood or blood products.
All SANBS staff members are working very hard to ensure that the environment in which blood donation takes place is friendly at all times. This will encourage blood donors to keep returning to our blood donor centres to give the gift of life.
SANBS is proud of the services it provides to our nation. Our mission, as an association of blood donors is to provide all patients with sufficient, safe, quality blood products and medical services related to blood transfusion in an equitable and cost-effective manner.
Throughout the years, SANBS had shown exceptional commitment to its mission and will continue to do so.
Remember, we have to collect 3 000 units of blood a day in an effort to ensure we meet the ever increasing demand for safe blood in the country. For us to achieve this, we need you to join our family of blood donors.
Blood is mostly needed for patients suffering from cancer, leukemia, haemorrhaging during childbirth and for those who excessively lost blood as a result of road accidents.
We accept blood from all South Africans, irrespective of race, colour, religion creed and gender. We have also shown commitment to extending service provision to areas where there was none.
For example, we have established blood donor centres in shopping malls located in Umlazi, Kwa Zulu Natal, Maponya Mall in Soweto and at Ga-Rankuwa township, east of Pretoria.
We wish to acknowledge and thank the media for their unequivocal support in terms of communicating our messages to the public.
