The South African National Blood Service is battling to undo bad publicity it received when South Africans found out that the service conducted racial classification of its blood supply.

The South African National Blood Service said it has not recorded any HIV/Aids infection through blood transfusions since 2005. The Blood Service's CEO Luyiso Mpuntsha stated that blood donor education programmes educates people to live a safe lifestyle when committed to long term blood donation.
However, only 1% of the South African population donated blood.

The South African National Blood Service said it has not recorded any HIV/Aids infection through blood transfusions since 2005. The Blood Service's CEO Luyiso Mpuntsha stated that blood donor education programmes educates people to live a safe lifestyle when committed to long term blood donation.
However, only 1% of the South African population donated blood, which is insufficient for a country with such a high demand.
